Marine Week Oct 2011 – Cape Recife Ramble

As part of Marine Week, the third annual Cape Recife Ramble was held on 22 October 2011. We decided to join in and get some exercise. The walk took us round the beach on the Cape Recife, past the lighthouse to the old penguin rehabilitation site, and up to the old fort. The day ended back at SAMREC – SA Marine Rehabilitation and Education Centre with a tour of the facilities and a talk on what is threatenting marine life on our coast line. Morgan Griffiths from Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) was there to talk about a few things along the walk, as well as Alan Fogarty who spoke on how the lighthouse there came to be.
