***Happy Harvesters – Food Gardeners Forum***

After a recent discussion with some attendees of our previous food gardening workshops, we have decided to organize a monthly gathering of food gardeners in and around the metro. This is intended to be a space where food gardeners can meet, share ideas, seeds, and even surplus produce.

**Details for first gathering of 2013 (Feb) to be confirmed**

**PE Seed Savers**

Seed Savers gathering in Nov 2012

Seed Savers gathering in Nov 2012

Following Happy Harvesters events in 2012, a group of seed savers have come together to grow and share heirloom seeds, preserving seed diversity and playing an important role in building resilience into our local food system. The group meets on the last Saturday of each month.

Awareness Raising

Presentation on Transition at Walmer Library

A lot of energy goes in to raising awareness of the issues around peak oil and climate change through participation in global campaigns, screening of relevant films, as well as giving presentations to various groups.

If your community might be interested in the Transition response, we would be happy to present the idea to them and assists with the different steps of the process.

Re-Skilling

Garden at The Irie, Richmond Hill

Food Gardening workshop held at The Irie

One of our primary focuses for 2011 is local food security, and as part of the re-skilling process, we are organizing and supporting workshops that empower people to be able to grow their own food in an ecologically sound manner. As of April this year we have already been involved with two such workshops and expect to see more happening in the future.

Networking

There are already a few groups working on different aspects of sustainability and the environment, but seem to do so in isolation. One of our roles is to bring together these various individuals/groups/organizations/companies so as to create a synergy among them. We believe that if the kind of change needed is to take place, then we need to be working together.
